J'ai toujours été étrangère partout. Je n'ai jamais vécu dans le pays dont je suis ressortissante, donc […] toute ma vie j'étais étrangère. Quand j'étais allemande, alors que j'étais en Allemagne, je parlais allemand comme tout le monde, le dialecte du coin. Mais à l'école, il fallait que je lève le petit doigt pour dire que j'étais étrangère. Donc de toute ma vie, j'étais étrangère. Je ne sais pas ce que c'est ne pas être étrangère.

I have always been a foreigner everywhere. I have never lived in the country I am from, so [...] all my life I was a foreigner. When I was German, when I lived in Germany, I spoke German like everybody else, the local dialect. But at school I had to lift a finger to say that I was a foreigner. So all my life I was a foreigner. I don't know what it is like not to be foreign.

Ich war immer und überall Ausländerin. Ich habe nie in dem Land gelebt, aus dem ich bin, also [...] mein ganzes Leben lang war ich Ausländerin. Als ich Deutsche war, also als ich in Deutschland war, habe ich wie alle anderen Deutsch gesprochen, den Dialekt der Gegend. Aber in der Schule musste ich den Finger heben, um zu sagen, dass ich Ausländerin bin. Also war ich mein ganzes Leben lang Ausländerin. Ich weiß nicht, wie es ist, nicht Ausländerin zu sein.

Ik ben altijd en overal een buitenlander geweest. Ik heb nooit in het land gewoond waar ik vandaan kom, dus [...] mijn hele leven was ik een buitenlander. Toen ik Duitser was, als ik in Duitsland was, sprak ik Duits zoals iedereen, het plaatselijke dialect. Maar op school moest ik een vinger uitsteken om te zeggen dat ik een buitenlander was. Dus mijn hele leven was ik een buitenlander. Ik weet niet wat het is om geen buitenlander te zijn.

Quando ero tedesco, quando ero in Germania, parlavo tedesco come tutti gli altri, il dialetto locale. Ma a scuola dovevo alzare un dito per dire che ero straniero. Quindi per tutta la vita sono stato uno straniero. Non so cosa significhi non essere straniero.
